BCC's Bolt Replacement Training

Neptune's Web Manager and former climbing department manager Tim (@timfrommaine) is on an adventure of knowledge and service. Here's his report from a recent outing:

We spent a grey and cold afternoon in Eldorado Springs working with Peter and Alex of the Boulder Climber Community's Anchor Replacement Program. Drills whirred and rock dust flew about the Eldorado Canyon Maintenance Garage as our small group hammered away on small practice boulders filled with holes from those before us.

This hands-on practice was part two of the BCC’s three-part training for volunteers interested in learning about anchor replacement. In this phase, we practiced placing and replacing sleeve-style and wedge-style bolts, discussed and dealt with common issues in bolt removal, and touched on a variety of other topics regarding the replacement of bolts around the Front Range.

In 2022 BCC replaced 862 old bolts around the front range, with the goal of replacing even more in 2023. To learn more about the BCC and the wonderful things they do check them out at boulderclimbers.org.
