Cross-loading a belay carabiner is one of climbing's most common and preventable equipment errors — the carabiner rotates on the belay loop, the spine ends up loaded laterally, and the rated major-axis strength becomes irrelevant. Black Diamond's Gridlock solves this with a straightforward mechanical solution: a small internal wiregate isolates the belay loop and keeps the carabiner locked in its correct orientation regardless of how the rope moves or how the load shifts. The horned spine holds the belay device in place. Once it's clipped and set, it stays set. Available in both Screwgate and Triple Lock versions depending on your preferred locking mechanism.
